New Offense-more movment,same results
During their off week the Toombs County Bulldogs switched from their Wing-T offense to a power wishbone formation and although their was more ball movement the result in Blackshear, on the Bears homecoming, was the same- Pierce County 35, Toombs County 6. The Bulldogs fall to 0-7 with three more chances to end the winless season- Tattnall County and Brantley County at home and Long County on the road.

The powerful right leg of Pierce County's senior kicker Jake Walker meant the Bulldogs had to start every drive, after a kickoff, at their own 20-yard line. On the game's first possession the Bulldogs put together their best drive since their season-opening 76-yard touchdown drive against Dublin. Halfback Mark Terrell broke free and weaved his way down field for a 60-yard run- the Bulldog's second longest run from scrimmage of the season. The other starting halfback, Tamond Hampton, kept the drive moving forward with several five to seven yard carries including a fourth down run and the Bulldogs scored on fourth down. Quarterback James Ethredge tallied his team-leading third touchdown on a one-yard keeper. Junior Oswaldo Guzman made his varsity kicking debut, but unfortunately his PAT was blocked giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead- the fourth time that the Bulldogs have taken the first lead in a game this season.

Pierce County, which is dueling Appling County for the Region 2 lead, drove back the other and scored on a touchdown pass by sophomore quarterback Micah Larson and with a Walker extra-point the Bears took the lead for good at 7-6 with 5:08 to play in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs had a punt blocked and Pierce County took over in side the Bulldog five. Larson scored on a quarterback keeper to make it 14-6 with 1:55 to go in the opening period. The Bulldogs got a break in the second quarter when they recovered a muffed punt fair catch at the Bear 38. TCHS drove the ball down to near the two-yard line. However, two yellow flags for illegal procedure moved the ball back to the 12 and that is where the potentially game-tying drive ended.

Once again the Bulldogs gave up a touchdown in the waining minutes of the the first half as Larson scored on another QB keeper with 1:14 to play before the break and Pierce County had a 21-6 half time lead.

The Toombs County Middle School Sports
The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups season came to an end with a 34-6 loss at J.R, Trippe. Eighth grade running back Jeremye Eason scored four touchdowns on runs of 60, 17, 5 and 50 yards and Carlos Rock added two-yard rushing touchdown for the 5-1 Chiefs. Two of the Trippe touchdown drives were preceded by Pup fumbles.
Dodge County defeated Bleckley County 16-0 in a game in Eastman that was stopped in the third quarter because of lightening. Dodge wraps up the regular season with a 4-2 record and finishes fourth in the MGMSAA knocking the 3-3 Bullpups out of the playoffs.
Eason scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and then added one each in the second and third quarter. The Bullpups scored their touchdown on a drive that began in the third quarter and ended in the fourth. Alex Ashley set up the drive with a long kick off return. Jordan Usher threw a pass to the one-yard line to Nathan Belch and then Ashley ended the drive with a one-yard run.
TCMS also had a nice drive to open up the game. Landon Cowart broke off a 12-yard run and Usher kept the ball on a fourth down play and picked up a first down. The drive ended at the 31-yard line on a fourth down play in which the Pups came up a yard short of picking up the first down.

The Real Squeal in second year
Anson Callaway, who runs Partin Park, estimated that attendance grew by an estimated 40% in the second year of The Real Squeal- Lyons Barbeque and Music Festival. So there were more people who enjoyed more events. A favorite new event was chain saw carving featuring artists from all over Georgia and Luree Magee who traveled all the way from Idaho. The Indian Artifacts Show and the Squeal-in Cruise-in car Show returned along with the professional and amateur barbeque cooking contest. Myron Mixon, a three-time world barbeque cooking champion who appears on BBQ Pitmasters on TLC, made his first appearance in Lyons.

Music in the park was provided by Mandy Gawley, a featured performer on Friday night at the Blue Marquee Theatre, and other acts.
